High-Tech Beauty Fixes

25 February 2008

An ever increasing amount of new technology is being developed that provides us with fabulous new treatments and can provide dramatic results without the risks associated with going under the knife!

Skin Conditioning Treatments

Fraxel® Laser
This procedure is good for the effective short-term removal of wrinkles and age spots and is beginning to overtake popular treatments such as Botox®. It works by causing deep microscopic wounds on damaged skin areas which stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen and skin cells. This process creates healthier, tighter looking skin tissue. The fact that this laser is non-ablative means that the epidermis (or outer layer of skin that covers our bodies) is unaffected, resulting in minimal swelling, redness and recovery time. Fraxel® laser can be affective in treating acne, facial scars and Melasma on the face, neck and hands. Treatments cost between £800 and £1,000 for a full face.

ActiveFX™
ActiveFX™ is a new fractional laser treatment (like Fraxel® laser) which uses Bridge Therapy™ and can rejuvenate the skin with just one treatment. Because it is a fractional treatment, which leaves ‘bridges’ of skin intact, the skin recovers much quicker, meaning downtime can take as little as five days. This treatment is good for any skin susceptible to age spots, sun spots, discoloration and wrinkling. It also works well for anyone looking to get rid of facial scars and treating rosecea. Treatment costs between £1400 and £2500.

Fat Reducing Treatments

SmartLipo®
This laser lipolysis treatment can remove small amounts of hard-to-shift fat using a laser instead of the high-pressure vacuum commonly used in liposuction.  During the procedure a minimally invasive fine tube is inserted under the skin where the laser breaks down fat into liquid form. The liquid is then removed or left to be eliminated naturally through the body. The use of a small tube and laser means that bruising and pain associated with a SmartLipo® treatment is minimal and subsides in about three weeks. Treatment costs between £1,500 and £4000.

Radiofrequency Skin Firming Treatments

Thermage®
This non-invasive, anti-aging treatment uses radiofrequency technology to heat collagen in the dermis; thereby tightening and restoring facial contours. It also helps long term results by stimulating collagen creation. Thermage® is used on the sagging areas of the face such as the eyebrows, chin area and cheeks, but can also be used on other major parts of the body. There is no recovery time, unlike a facelift, so you may return to your normal activities immediately. Results can be seen after a single treatment; however, the number of treatments you receive depend on the rate that your skin loses its elasticity. Treatment costs between £600 and £1500.

Polaris®
Polaris® is a non-surgical treatment that can tighten the skin on the face and other parts of the body without any downtime. This procedure utilises electro-optical synergy for minimum pain. It uses a radiofrequency and diode laser to stimulate collagen, tighten and smooth skin, soften the appearance of wrinkles, reduce enlarged pores and treat less severe acne scars. The results of this treatment aren’t as dramatic as ablative laser procedures. Treatment costs approximately £500 for the face and neck.

Today there are many treatments that can help you gain youthful looking skin and a slimmer form without painful procedures or long recovery periods that have traditionally been associated with such treatments. All you have to do is match the treatment with your needs.
